Weird-Reality began as Strange Reality on a bulletin board system (BBS) back in the 1980s. Originally catering to students and some researchers, Strange Reality had some 400 users.  With time, Strange Reality evolved and grew until about 1995, using internet relay chat (IRC), a chat room was created under the name #Strange_Reality, along side another chat room, #PsYcHo_WaRD. Both chat rooms were located on the now defunct Microsoft Network IRC.

When MSN closed down their IRC network in 2000, Strange Reality became the name, you are now used to, Weird Reality on MSN Groups in December 2000. For the following 8 years, Weird Reality became one of the premier groups on MSN, reaching a membership of about 3000 with roughly 600 active members.  At the same time, we'd opened another community group called, Weird Space. It too, enjoyed a huge predominance in its category.

When MSN closed down its community groups network, we worked to save as much of the groups' posts as possible by porting the two groups, Weird Reality and Weird Space, to Yuku communities. And for many years they were available as achieved groups on Yuku Communities. When Tapatalk bought out Yuku the Weird Reality and Weird Space posts were forever lost.

Since 2008 Weird Reality has operated as a independent website, unassociated with any other community service. However, in 2012, due to some issues with upgrading the "phpBB" software, the content of the forum was lost. The database was saved, meaning that the posts are still retrievable, but are not integrable with the current forum software. At the moment we've no plans attempting to retrieve those earlier posts.

Weird Reality, in its various forms, has been around for over 30 years. And, we plan to be around for another 30 years.
